We all know how important the magic of storytelling really is and here at Loverly Learning & Co., we'd love to help promote early literacy for your child. With the many thousands of books out there, it can be hard to decide which books your little one will cling to. We've rounded up a list of -five- of our little's (ages 11 months and 20 months) current favorite books and wanted to share them with you.
Goodnight Moon
by Margaret Wise Brown
Pictures by Clement Hurd
Goodnight Moon is our "go-to" rhyming bedtime story which helps children identify objects in a room by saying good night to them. This story encourages object recognition and is perfect for a little one who is just learning how to speak as many commonplace objects are illustrated in this book. We love that this story has been made into a board book as it's very durable and can withstand a toddler's roughness.
Pat the Bunny
by Dorothy Kunhardt
Pat the Bunny is a great sensory book which our daughter's have both adored since they were babies. It's a very interactive book which stimulates the senses by encouraging your little one to use their sense of touch, smell, and sight. This book is a necessity for your child's library and for your diaper bag!
Where the Wild Things Are
Story and Pictures by Maurice Sendak
Lauren's "wild thing" is pictured above giving her most -favorite- book a huge hug. I'm sure you're familiar with this Caldecott awarded book and it may even end up being your favorite childhood story. If you've never heard of it, we STRONGLY encourage you to pick this one up for your little one as it is a wonderful story which allows your little one to let their imagination run wild.
First 100 Words
by Roger Priddy
This First 100 Words board book is -essential- for your little one and can easily be apart of their every day. We always make sure this book is handy and it's been perfect for road trips, restaurant outings, airplane travel, shopping trips, you name it! This is a very bright book filled with pictures of simple first words and is the perfect conversation book which encourages your little one to use their words.
Giraffes Can't Dance
by Giles Andreae
Illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees
Giraffes Can't Dance is a sweet story about Gerald the Giraffe who so badly wants to dance and fit in but is really rather clumsy. This precious book teaches your little one that being different is okay which is life lesson that can be revisited at any age. My favorite line is "we all can dance when we find the music that we love". The vibrant pictures are sure to keep your little one engaged and who doesn't love dancing along? Enjoy this nice story that teaches your child about individuality and learning how to dance to the beat of their own drum.
